Bigbody Applehead is a five to six piece jazz group originated from Augsburg College. Music has played a large part in the members’ lives. Influences include local jazz cats, Happy Apple, The Bad Plus, Davina and the Vagabonds.  Ellington, Sinatra and Monk also join the crowd.

 

Founder, Sara Horishnyk is the drummer in the group. Sara has been playing since 1996. Sara has participated in many jazz ensembles from middle school to the Augsburg College Jazz Big Band. She has a B.A. in music business from Augsburg College and works for music groups in the twin cities.


Jack Payne has played bass since 2002 when he began on the upright bass. Since then, he has played in numerous jazz combos, big bands and a number of modern music groups.  After college, he began to focus more on the electric bass.  He enjoys playing everything from jazz to classic rock, soul, fusion, livetronica, folk and experimental music.


Micah Erickson, trumpet and vocals has been in love with jazz ever since he first heard a Dave Brubeck record at a friend's house in elementary school. This love blossomed at Augsburg where Micah was able to get practical experience in improvisation and live performance and try out some jazz vocals with the Gospel Praise Ensemble.  


Guitarist, Steven Clayton is studying classical guitar at UW River falls.  He also teaches private lessons out of Foxtone music in Hudson Wisconsin.  Steven also plays with a number of other local bands.


Meghan Sherer, vocals has a B.A. in vocal performance. Sherer's vocal styling's range from sultry jazz to classical opera.  


Keyboardist, Andy Peterson is also a graduate from Augsburg College with a degree in music performance and education.
